Can a foreigner open a personal bank account in Thailand? In many cases, yes. The practical answer depends on the bank, the account product, the applicant's immigration and residence position, the purpose of the account and the documents available to support that purpose.
A work permit can make an application more straightforward, but it is not a universal legal requirement for every personal deposit account. Some banks or products require one. Where the applicant holds an eligible non-tourist immigration status, a bank may accept different evidence showing why the applicant lives in, works in, studies in, invests in or otherwise has a genuine connection with Thailand.
